Gossip Girl Costume Designer Eric Daman Thrifted Looks for the New Show; Now He’s Partnering with thredUP to Help Consumers Get the Look

July 15, 2021 - Eric Daman, Emmy award winning costume designer of Gossip Girl, just revealed that he thrifted outfits for Gossip Girl 2.0. He's now partnering with thredUP, one of the world's largest online resale platforms, to launch three curated thrift boxes that make it easy for consumers to get the look.

“I have always been passionate about thrift,” says Daman. “My obsession with thrifting goes back to when I was a kid in the 80s scouring local thrift stores for incredible, idiosyncratic pieces. Thrift was always the more niche shopping choice, but a lot has changed in the past 15 years since Gossip Girl first launched. The way young people dress has changed, and my style direction for the continuation of the show reflects that shift. People are thrifting to score unique finds and to make a better choice for the planet. I had so much fun thrifting for the show and loved shopping on thredUP to curate these thrift boxes. I hope the boxes show how easy it is to achieve a cool wardrobe by thrifting.” - Eric Daman, Gossip Girl Costume Designer

Thrift Like A Pro - Here are the Five Items Eric Loves to Style Secondhand:

1. Handbags: I love thrifting for a fab, idiosyncratic handbag. It's always a real treasure hunt! One of my faves is the Red Fendi Baguette recently spotted on the Met Steps.

The Shift to Thrift, Onscreen & Off:

A lot has changed in the last 15 years as consumers have woken up to the realities of fashion’s impact on the planet. Today, the secondhand stigma has faded, and there are more thrifters than ever before. thredUP’s 2021 Resale Report found that 33 million consumers bought secondhand apparel for the first time in 2020, and 76% of those first-time buyers plan to increase their spend on secondhand in the next 5 years. More than 40% of millennial and Gen Z shoppers have shopped secondhand in the past year as they increasingly prioritize value and sustainability.
